   VETERANS' MEMORIAL COMMITTEE MINUTES

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20, 2007             6:45 PM                             TOWN HALL

In attendance: Tom Thompson, Barbara Currier, Russell Moren, Harry Decker, Ed Ford,
Pat Ford, Sandy Ray

Call to order: 6:45 pm

Minutes: Tom Thompson moved, Ed Ford seconded and the vote was unanimous (7-0 in favor) of accepting the minutes of the Feb. 22, 2007 meeting with the correction of the date of the next meeting mistakenly recorded as March 22, 2007 changed to March 21, 2007.

Names: Ed Ford reported an upcoming work session scheduled with Sherry Gould on the 9th and 10th of April to try to finish up the confirmation project.

Tom Thompson reported on three phone conversations with Bruce Barnard pertaining to the septic system location at the library. Although technically possible to work with the site, Mr. Barnard does not recommend 1. any digging within a radius of ten feet of the outer edge of the stone field surrounding the septic tank and 2. no concrete structure on top of the tank. A further conversation with Dick Marden, building inspector for the town, indicates his disapproval of the proposal. Tom reported him saying an absolute "no" to locating a new monument at the site of the present monument or anywhere close enough to compromise the integrity of the library's septic system.

After some discussion about location it was suggested that further measuring on the library site would be helpful. The committee agreed to meet at the library at 6:30 PM on the next meeting night to measure for a new location.

Barbara Currier reported a conversation with Holderness resident, Scott Grey, who said he represented a group of citizens who would like to see the new monument list the names of any veteran currently living in Holderness who served at any time and regardless of where they lived at the time of their service. The committee agreed that the suggestion was impractical for many reasons and beyond the scope of this project.

Harry Decker reported that the Grange can not accept donations for this project as they do not have the necessary type of tax deductible designation. Harry will approach the Historical Society to ask them to use their 501C3 status to assist with the fundraising efforts for the monument.

A question arose about the switch in design proposal from multiple stones to one large stone for the new monument. Harry replied that multiple stones would not be a good idea given the limited size of the library site.

The next meeting was set for April 11, 2007 at 6:30 PM. The meeting will convene at the library to take measurements, then will move to the town hall.

Respectfully submitted,
Sandy Ray
