Criteria for Holderness Veterans Honor Roll

In order to be included on the Holderness Veterans Honor Roll an individual must:
have resided in Holderness at the time of entry into proven Federal service in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard or Merchant Marines; Federal Service including Federal activation from the National Guard and Reserves.
have served at least one day during time of war included in the following wars/conflicts and dates:
Revolutionary War Apr 19 1775 to Nov 26 1783
War of 1812 – Jun 18 1812 – Feb 17 1815
Civil War - Apr 12 1861 to May 26 1865
Spanish American War – Apr 21 1898 to Apr 11 1899
WW I – Apr 6 1917 to Nov 11 1918
WW II – Dec 7 1941 to Jan 31 1946
Korea – Jun 25 1950 to Jan 31 1955
Vietnam – Dec 22 1961 to May 7, 1975 Also Jul 1, 1958 to Dec 22, 1961 if the resident earned the Vietnam service medal or the armed forces expeditionary medal or theater of operations service medal.
Lebanon and Granada – Aug 24 1982 to Jul 31 1984
Panama  - Dec 20 1989 to Jul 31 1990
Persian Gulf   Aug 2 1990 – 30 Nov 1995
Global War on Terrorism Sep 11 2001 - Present
All Veterans included on existing Honor Roll’s for Holderness will be included unless proven to have not been a resident of Holderness at the time of entry into the service.

Proof of military service prior to WW I to include:
US Pension files
NH State Papers
Chandler E. Potter, "The Military History of the State of New Hampshire 1623-1861"
1840 Census Veterans Schedule for Rev. Service
Aylings Soldiers and Sailors of the Civil War

Proof of service WW I forward to include:
NH State Veterans Bonus Listing from the NH Adjunct Generals Office
DD 2 14 or other official discharge form (copy or verified by two committee members from either the Grange Committee or the Holderness Honor Roll Committee)
Letter from the National Personnel Records Center or VA stating time in service and home of record if available
Draft Registration card combined with 1930 Census listing of WW service for WW I only

Proof of residency to include:
Military records and historical documentation giving residency as Holderness.
Holderness Town Report listings for poll taxes, residential property tax, school attendance, or vital records (marriages, births, etc.) in proximity to service entrance.
Holderness Voter Check Lists for applicable years
US Census records
1908 Town Register for Holderness
Holderness Town records including town meeting records and any military service mentioned therein.
