                               MEMORIAL COMMITTEE MINUTES

Wednesday, Feb. 15th, 2006        6:30 PM      Town Hall       9th Meeting

In attendance: Pat Ford, Ed Ford, Barbara Currier, Tom Thompson, Harry Decker, Sandy Ray, Russell Moren

Call to order: 6:35 PM

Minutes: There were corrections to the meeting minutes of Jan. 11th, 2006 as follows: Ms. Gould changed to Mrs. Gould (twice in paragraph 2); in paragraph 4 change “… for the town to raise and appropriate the sum of fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000.00) to begin the planning, design, and construction of a new Honor Roll memorial…”
Tom Thompson moved, Ed Ford seconded, and the vote was unanimous (7-0 in favor) of accepting the minutes as ammended. The minutes and meeting notices have not been appearing on the town website. Sandy will check into this. Also, the committee members expressed their desire to have a hard copy of the minutes sent to each of them in advance of the next meeting as some do not have computer access.

Ed Ford reported that the name search committee will be meeting with Sherry Gould on Feb. 27, 2006. They will need 2 or 3 more days after that to finish up their work and should be ready with a completed name search by the time of the next committee meeting.

Barbara Currier reported that she contacted Sarah Perry of Perry Memorials about assisting the committee with design ideas and layouts. Sarah is willing to work with the committee and offered to attend a committee meeting to talk over the ideas that have been generated thus far.

Harry Decker presented two sketches supplied by Tom Samyn to illustrate what the memorial could look like at both the town hall and the library. These were not scale drawings. There was no charge for these sketches.

Russell Moren presented computer printouts of photos of both the library site and the town hall site on which he had superimposed images of memorial stones from photos of a site he had visited elsewhere.

Barbara Currier reported that she had spoken with some Ashland Garden Club members who expressed an interest in assisting Irma Rand with care of the garden she created at the town hall. When approached by Barbara, Irma  was receptive to the idea of having help with the care and maintenance of the garden.

Ed Ford expressed his opinion that scale drawings are needed to fully assess the viability of the two favored locations for the monument. He suggested that it is time to call upon Sarah Perry for assistance. Ed moved, Tom Thompson seconded and the vote was unanimous (7-0 in favor) of asking Sarah to attend the next committee meeting. It was suggested that she might want to visit both sites prior to the meeting. Barbara Currier agreed to meet with her for that purpose at Sarah’s convenience. Russell agreed to reset the septic system markers at the library prior to Sarah’s visit.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, Mar. 8th, 2006 @ 6:30 at the town hall.

Pat Ford moved, Ed Ford seconded and the vote was unanimous (7-0 in favor) of adjourning the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 7:13 PM.

Respectfully submitted,
Sandy Ray
