Conservation Commission Meeting

CALL TO ORDER:   The meeting was called to order at 4:10 p.m. by Chairman Spencer.

PRESENT:  Larry Spencer, Betsy Whitmore, Barbara Currier, and Jackie Jewell.

OTHERS PRESENT:   David Lorch (planner, health and compliance officer) and Anne Abear (municipal secretary)

MINUTES:   Ms. Currier moved and Mrs. Jewell seconded to approve the minutes of the May 13, 2008 meeting as amended. Vote was unanimous.  Motion passed.
        
        Amendment:  The announcement of the next meeting to be held at Swaney Brook was to be   determined.

MAIL & CORRESPONDENCE:  Chairman Spencer reviewed the following -

  • An intent to cut for the Holderness School was reviewed.
  • A wetlands permit for Asquam was reviewed.
UPCOMING MEETINGS –

PRLAC will hold two meetings regarding the Pemi River Watershed Resource Co-occurrence model.  The meetings will be held on June 19 at Boyd Hall beginning at 6:30 p.m. and on June 26 at the Gordon-Nash library in New Hampton beginning at 6:30 p.m. Betsy Whitmore will attend the Plymouth session.

The Co-operative extension will be holding summer courses dealing with GIS matter.

A meeting has been tentatively scheduled for September 17 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Boyd Hall for the surrounding Conservation Commission boards. The chair will take care of contacting those boards.

OLD BUSINESS –

  • Town Energy Committee – Mr. Spencer advised an energy committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the Town Office.
  • Report of BioBlitz – Mr. Spencer advised 700 – 1000 different species were identified during this event.  Members of the Board will receive a final count and listing when it becomes available. Our participation in this event saved the town a lot of money because we will be receiving a species inventory of the town at no cost to the town other than the participation of board members in the event.  
  • Trail Work – Mr. Spencer has had conversations with Mr. Pettitt of the Holderness Private School and was advised they are interested in assisting the town on the trail work.  Members of the Board recommended getting students of the high school and junior high involved in the work.
  • Wind Generator Ordinance – Members of the Board requested a copy of the wind energy regulation that is being proposed by the Planning Board.  Mrs. Abear will email out the ordinance to members of the Board for their review.  
  • Summer Newsletter – Mr. Spencer advised that an article concerning runoff into the Squam Lakes had been placed into the summer newsletter preparing for the summer meeting.
  • Summer Meetings of the Commission – Mr. Spencer advised that a workshop on the Comprehendsive Shoreland Proctection Act to be held this summer for summer residents is being set up by Mrs. Cocchiaro and Mrs. Connelly who will report on the progress of these sessions at the next meeting.  
NEW BUSINESS

  • Summer Meeting Schedule – Mr. Spencer advised the Board will hold meetings in July and August on the 3rd Tuesday of each month only if needed.  Mr. Spencer will keep members of the Board advised of the need of the meetings.
  • Vernal Pool mapping – Mr. Spencer provide copies of and discussed email correspondence received from Mr. Hansen and Mr. Lorch regarding maps of vernal pools and prime wetlands and possible regulations on same.  Mr. Spencer indicated there is as map of the prime wetlands available at the Town Office and also on NH Granit. He suggested Mr. Lorch to contact PeoplesGIS regarding having the wetlands placed on the online mapping program.  
  • Members of the Board visited the prime wetland associated with Bennett Brook at the end of the meeting.
ADJOURNMENT:  Mr. Spencer adjourned the meeting at   5  p.m.
