Our Personnel

The Holderness Fire/Rescue Department is a largely volunteer force with one full- time Chief and twenty-nine call members.  Among the membership are two Deputy Chiefs, four Captains and seven Emergency Medical Technicians.  The membership is trained and equipped to respond to fire and medical emergencies involving motor vehicles, homes, offices and farms, as well as in water and wilderness in any season.

Our Mission

We strive to protect and serve a Town made up of thirty-six square miles of mainland plus White Oak Pond, most of Little Squam Lake, and nearly half of Big Squam Lake.  Holderness is a vacation destination in which 50% of the population is non-resident and much of land is forest.

Responsibilities within Holderness include one and one-half miles of Interstate 93, a sizable stretch of the Pemigewasset River, two marinas and three convenience stores with fueling facilities, and three academic campuses that include classrooms, dorms, playing fields, field houses, facilities service buildings and a hockey rink.  Also in Town is the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center which attracts thousands of visitors a year and houses dozens of native wild animals.

Our Facility

We work out of the new Public Safety Building which opened in 1997 and is shared by the Police Department. In addition to the Apparatus Bay, we have a meeting room (also shared with the Police Department), a radio room, two offices, an EMS room, a kitchen, full bathroom facilities, and a laundry room equipped to handle our specialized protective clothing. We are completely self-contained with a stand-by Generator that can operate the entire building.

Dispatch

We are dispatched by the Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid Association located in Laconia N.H. on Communications Drive.  Holderness is designated by the number Twelve (12) and our Color is Black.
