Holderness Library
Board of Trustees Meeting
October 20, 2006
Meeting Minutes
In Attendance:
Trustees: Sandy Ray, Larry Webster, Kay Hanson, Todd Elgin
Library Director: Suzanne Peoples
Bat Problem:
Bat exterminator, Tom Boudreau eliminated the bats in the library by plugging up holes and sealing off entries. Boudreau says it is the worst infestation of bat guano that he has ever seen. The flour like powder found in the library ceiling can cause pulmonary problems when ingested. It took Boudreau 3 days at $2,500 per day to clean up the main library room. There is still some guano around the chimney that will be dealt with when Boudreau can come back in December.
Veterans’ Memorial:
The Library will need the existing septic system when the new addition is built. This pit septic system will be adequate for the proposed library expansion. It had originally been hoped that the library would tap into an existing septic leach field that would be shared with Curry Place and Walter’s Basin. The site of the library’s pit septic system is the location for one of the proposed sights for the new war memorial. Should the memorial be installed on this sight, it would have to be temporarily moved during the construction of the library’s expansion project.
The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as presented.
The Trustees accepted the budget report.
Library Director’s Report
Suzanne has attended a Scrooge and Marley meeting. Scrooge and Marley is a gathering of Library directors from around New Hampshire.
Susan Beeson and Carol Snelling will be having a reorganizing of the Friends of the Library meeting. Thirty-five invitations were extended to members of the community to attend this meeting. It was noted that males have yet to be invited to join.
Sarah Weinberg will be leading a Halloween Story Time and Pumpkin Project at the library. The Holderness Central School has agreed to allow children to ride the school bus to this event.
The book discussion group will have their first gathering of the year next week. The knitting group is also resuming for the season.
The meeting room will be use by the Rainbow Girls, who are offering a “Reach Out and Read” program.
Budget 2007
Suzanne presented a draft for the library 2007 budget. The proposal was scrutinized by all present. The cost of computer service will have to be increased to meet our current needs. The final budget proposal will be perused at our next meeting.
It was proposed that Suzanne be given a debit card so that she will have an easier access to the budgeted library funds. Presently she has to use her own personal credit card or petty cash to pay for expenses until she can be reimbursed. This will be revisited at a later date.
The next Board of Trustees’ meeting will be on Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at 9:00 AM, in the Holderness Library.
Respectfully submitted by,
Kay Hanson, Secretary for the Holderness Library Trustees
The next building committee meeting will be 9:30 AM, Thursday, October 26, 2006 at the Holderness Library. David Provan will be facilitating a discussion.
