Holderness Library Trustee Meeting
April 15, 2008
Meeting Minutes
In Attendance
Library Trustees: Carol Snelling, Kathy Wieliczko, Kay Hanson, Amanda Loud, Larry Webster
Library Director: Victoria Lang
Minutes of the March 18 meeting were accepted as presented.
The Treasurer's report was accepted for audit.
Library Director's Report
The grant for children's programming has been applied for. Entertainers Steve Blunt and Mr. Phil are booked for summer story time appearances.
The trustees approved a new computer use policy that Victoria submitted. The new policy is more concise and user friendly than the previous policy.
Victoria asked that wireless computer users be given the capacity to use the library printer. A computer technician will need to install a devise for this. The WiFi users would pay the library fee of 20 cents per copy.
The flag on the outside pole is in tatters. It was recommended that Victoria consult with Ed Ford when disposing of the old flag. (Ed had donated the flag and pole to the library.) The trustees also requested that care be given when ordering, that the new flag's size be proportional to the size of the pole.
Police were called to intervene for a delinquent overdue patron. The trustees agreed with Victoria that this is extreme and bad public relations to pursue such delinquency though police intervention. The police will no longer be sent for in such a case. Instead the borrower's privileges will be rescinded. Victoria will draft a policy.
Victoria would like the library to be open one night per week. The trustees approved of this change. Because the library parking lot is shared with Walter's Basin, the trustees also suggested that she check with the parking lot evening usage.
Lydia and Victoria will be attending the New Hampshire Library Association Conference next Thursday.
New Business
The Friends of the Library are starting to plan for celebrating the library's centennial year (2009). It was suggested that a centennial committee planning committee be formed.
New book cases for the children's books have been ordered. They will be paid for with money donated by the Friends.
Budget
This year's library budget is like no other budget. The Budget Committee and Town have granted the library a substantial budget increase for 2008. The library has to show certain measurable improvements, and attempt to fundraise $12,000. So far the library has received $2,000 from the Rothschild Family Foundation, and $350 in anonymous donations. It was suggested that a fundraising committee be formed.
The library may need to charge fees for some events and send out an appeal letter.
Personnel issues were then discussed.
The meeting will continue at 4:00 PM, on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Holderness Library.
Respectfully submitted by,
Kay Hanson
Secretary for the Holderness Library Trustees
