Holderness Library
Board of Trustees Meeting
December 11, 2006
Meeting Minutes
In Attendance:
Trustees: Sandy Ray, Larry Webster, Kay Hanson, Todd Elgin, Susan Beeson
Library Director: Suzanne Peoples
The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted and approved.
The financial report was not available.
Issues and Concerns
Many members of the Holderness community will need to be involved for the building expansion project to be successful. Concern was expressed that involving all these people seems like a daunting achievement.
Director’s Report
The Thanksgiving Story time was a successful program. Participants heard a story and played turkey bingo.
The weekly Sew What gathering is not drawing a large number of participants. The Sew What group has been meeting at 4:00PM on Wednesdays. It was suggested that this may not be a convenient time for many people.
Thirteen people participated in the most recent book discussion group.
Should the library put a timer on the thermostat to automatically control the building’s heat usage? A patron has donated a thermostat timer to the library. Suzanne will consult a fuel expert to find out which is more fuel efficient: using a thermostat timer or maintaining an even thermostat setting.
Discussion and Action
1. Susan Beeson’s seat on the board of trustees will be open in the March election. Susan, Larry, and Kay will check over the library patron list to make up a list of possible candidates that could fill this position.
2. Budget
The Holderness Select Board asked the library to trim the proposed 2007 budget (a budget that reflected a 10.5% increase above the 2006 budget). After considerable discussion the board amended the 2007 budget to $55,055 which is an 8% increase over the 2006 budget.
3. The library’s share of the Curry Place septic system is 84 gallons. In addition the library has a pit septic system located on the library property. To the best of understanding, the library needs the use of both systems. Septic system designer, Bruce Barnard is being asked for his specs of the library’s pit system.
4. The bat infestation problem was an unanticipated yet necessary budgetary expense from the 2006 library budget. The Town is being asked to help the library with this budgetary overload. There are still infestation problems in the library chimney area at an estimated additional cost of $2,000. The bill for this will need to be paid before the fiscal budget closes on Dec 31st.
Other
The library trustees’ summation of the year for the Holderness Town Report is due next week. Sandy will submit the report on behalf of the trustees.
Next meeting
The next meeting of the Board of Trustees will be Monday, January 8, at 9:00AM at the Holderness Library.
Respectfully submitted,
Kay Hanson, Secretary for the Holderness Library Trustees
