Board Members Present: Tom Stepp (chair), Sam Laverack (Selectman),

2) Recreation Budget – Current balance (see budget) does not reflect
-$434 for Lipizzaner Horse trip.
-$150 for Anne Packard Early Bird Exercise program, not yet billed.
-$200 mileage for Kay
-$350 for Archery instruction
3) Current programs
-Skating will begin December 13, at Holderness Rink
-Norwegian snowflakes will be made at Library, with a 17 person sign up.
-Janet mentioned that the indoor walking signup has been removed from the post office. Kay will hang another.
-Archery had a 10 person turnout and 1 person who had not signed up had to be turned away.
Kay mentioned that she is going to start doing more cooperative programming with other groups in order to increase participation and create success with Holderness Rec programs. Plans have already been made with the Holderness Library and Ashland (through Juggling James Gleick)
4) Preview of Winter Flyer
-February swim at PSU
-Snowshoe treks
-$5 rentals
-Janet mentioned that ski poles might be a good suggestion for beginners.
-Night Out
-Students at Holderness Central were polled to find out what activities would interest them.
-Collaboration with Ashland (Jim)
-Janet mentioned that conflicts with SAU dances should be avoided.
-Parent Toddler Hour is a new addition
The flyer will be out during the week of December 27th – 31st. Sam suggested that the skating should be advertised on the Holderness Central School sign and perhaps any other events that were compatible with the school.
It was decided that the postage and printing costs for the flyer would appear in next years budget. This was when the bill would come in and it would not push this year’s budget deeper in the red.
5) Other
-Accounting program is difficult to use, but meets our current needs.
-Peter mentioned that Loon Mountain is looking for 5 scholarships to be given out to local skiers for full passes to the mountain ski racing program. Jay is going to pass the word along at the PRHS and Kay is going to do the same at the elementary school. Interested students should submit an informal request through Bill Crampton. The program has weekend and holiday commitments and is possibly open to a variety of age groups.
-It was suggested that Biff be the spokesperson for the committee when we go to the Selectman.
-Sam brought up several ideas for the Rec Board to investigate into sponsoring including:
-A cooking class offered by John Richards
-Bread making at the bakery (Mo Lefreniere contact)
-Tom brought up the success of past computer classes
-Kay is investigating Belly Dancing and Yoga classes.
6) Next Meeting
-Tuesday 7 pm on January 27th, 2004
The following meeting was suggested to be on Tuesday 7 pm on March 8th, 2004
Respectfully Submitted,
Jay Fogarty
