Board Members Present: Wendy Werner, Director, Tom Stepp (chair), Sam Laverack (Selectman ) Biff Sutcliffe (secretary), Peter Durnan, Jay Fogarty, Janis Messier Wendy Mersch, Marty Riehs
1.) Secretary’s Report:
Minutes of 20, December 2004 were accepted
2.) Budget Report (2004):
Nothing to report for 2005. Still waiting for official year-end report for 2004
3) Current Programs:
Wendy distributed copies of the new flyer. There was hearty agreement that both the format and contents offered an exciting new approach. Wendy reported on the many new programs and the enthusiasm with which the folks at Longhaul Farm have entered into a collaborative effort with Holderness Recreation. Quilting is being offered again, and she has arranged for an afternoon of swimming at the PSU pool. Wendy has developed a Mixed Games Day for children ages 5-9. This is modeled after a program she ran in North Reading. MA with much success. She is also in the process of developing a morning program of field games for pre-schoolers. She hopes to work collaboratively with Ashland Recreation on this and to be able to us the Ashland athletic fields
since the fields at HCS can not be used during the academic day.
Wendy will create a non-resident flyer that she hopes to circulate throughout the SAD with the hope that an increased readership will increase participation in the programs we offer that are not resident specific.
Early tallies for our two weekend skating programs seem to be stronger than in recent years.
4) Day Camp Developments:
The need for a Day Camp director was noted and a plan of action was developed. Wendy will start the process of advertising for candidates.
Wendy reported that she met with Amy Yeakel of the Science Center to discuss how we take advantage of this resource in our Day Camp program. We will purchase a Camp Membership (at some discount) that will allow us to use the Science Center facilities. We plan on bringing our campers to the Science Center once each session for the day.
5) Other:
Town Beach: The Board reviewed the handout entitled Holderness Town Beach Rules and Regulations. It was decided that we would add “from mid-June to Labor Day” to the sentence that refers to the coverage of the beach by the beach attendants.
Wendy reported that the new Town Beach passes are ready for purchase in the Town Office. She will make the change to the Rules and Regulations handout and make them available to the Office Staff for dissemination.
Wendy mentioned that she has initiated a bulk email list. She sent out a mass “mailing” and has begun to receive feedback. We hope to do more with email advertising over the next few years.
6) NEXT MEETING: Monday, February 21 at 7:00 PM
Respectfully submitted,
George D. Sutcliffe, Jr. (secretary)
