Recreation Commission Minutes 04/12/2005
The Town of Holderness, New Hampshire
Holderness Recreation Board Meeting
April 12, 2005

Board Members Present:      Wendy Werner, Director,     Tom Stepp (chair),    Sam Laverack   (Selectman )       Biff Sutcliffe (secretary),       Peter Durnan,      Jay Fogarty,          Janis Messier      Wendy Mersch,    Marty Riehs

1.) Secretary’s Report:
Minutes of 28, February 2005 were accepted

2.) Budget Reports;
        Recreation:
Wendy reported that our revenues stand at $1,589 and expenses at $4,361.
        Beach:
                Nothing to report.

3.) Day Camp Up-date:
Wendy reported that Angela and Anne have been hired as Director and Assistant Director of Holderness Day Camp.  The Board is excited to have these two well-qualified people on Staff.
Angela and Wendy will be attending “Camp Night” @ Plymouth Elementary School this spring.
Registrations are coming in.  Wendy and Angela are working together to come up with some promotional techniques – using community access TV, special activities at HCS, and various posters throughout the community.
Staffing:  Wendy has started the interview process and the candidates look good.  It appears that we will have no returning staff, but the applicants that Wendy is working with seem mature and well qualified.

4.) Beach:
Attendants for 2005:  Wendy has hired two from last year and only one more is needed on a part-time status.
Port-a-potties have been ordered for the season.  Wendy will take care of the phone order.
Biff and Peter will once again work together to set the beach up for the season.  Biff has started the application process for State permitting of the swimming area and Tom will finish the application process by generating the required swim area diagram.  We will likely be asking for a variance since in order to get the 6’ maximum depth we need to set the far buoys at more than the 50’ limit set by the State.

5) Current Programs:
Quilting had only a few people but it went well.
Early Bird Aerobics is still going.
        Archery ran as scheduled.
Skating – finished with revenues (hockey $450) & Rec $320) and facility use expense of $550.  This gave us a net income of $220.
Organic Gardening: will be running 5/10,  5/24.  And 6/14
Indoor Soccer:  is running and seems to be growing
Rug Hooking, Mixed Games and Yoga all had to be canceled due to a lack of interest.
Fairly Gardens has one applicant at the moment.  Wendy will be working on getting more press for this activity.

6)  NEXT MEETING: Monday, May 9th at 7:00 PM

Respectfully submitted,

George D. Sutcliffe, Jr. (secretary)
