Recreation Commission Minutes 10/12/05
The Town of Holderness, New Hampshire
Holderness Recreation Board Meeting
October 12, 2005

Board Members Present:      Wendy Werner, Director,     Tom Stepp (chair),    Sam Laverack   (Selectman )       Biff Sutcliffe (secretary),       Peter Durnan,      Jay Fogarty,          Janis Messier      Wendy Mersch,    Marty Riehs

1)  Minutes of 14 September were reviewed and accepted.

2)  Budget Report - Wendy Werner presented a working draft of our budget proposal for 2006.  She had prepared an enormous amount of work with hard numbers and rationale sheets.  The Board reviewed each line item and made some suggestions for refinement.  Wendy will meet with the appropriate Town officials during the next few weeks to finalize the budget proposal.
Some members of the Board will meet, if necessary, with Walter Johnson to review Wendy's contract with regard to how her hours per week are allocated and how this affects the benefits usually accorded part-time employees.

3) Town Beach - After some discussion about improving the parking lot surface and the lower section of Dirt Road the Board made a few adjustments to the budget proposal that Wendy Werner had prepared.
Peter and Biff will take the swim float and lines in on October 26th.  Peter will have the Holderness School students do some raking and general fall clean-up at that time.

4) Current Programs - Wendy Werner reported that archery looks good and the fall hike was successful.  The playgroup currently has 3 moms and 4 kids and it is hoped that the word will spread.  Kids Crafts with Wendy Mersch will likely go.  The Harvest Festival will be held on October 22nd.  Wendy Werner has a number of volunteers scheduled to help.

5) Correspondence -  Wendy Werner reported that she had received a letter from the Modern Woodsmen of America offering teaching kits and supplies to us.  Although there was nothing appropriate for our present programs she did say that there is an orienteering package that she would love to use with our Day Camp program.  She will follow-up.

NEXT MEETING: Wednesday, November 9th  at 7:00 PM

Respectfully submitted,

George D. Sutcliffe, Jr. (secretary)
