Recreation Commission Minutes 11/09/05
The Town of Holderness, New Hampshire
Holderness Recreation Board Meeting
November 9, 2005

Board Members Present:      Wendy Werner, Director,     Tom Stepp (chair),    Sam Laverack   (Selectman )       Biff Sutcliffe (secretary),       Peter Durnan,      Jay Fogarty,          Janis Messier      Wendy Mersch,    Marty Riehs

1)  Minutes of 12 October were reviewed and accepted.

2)  Budget Report -
Beach: It was decided that we would decrease our expenses by cutting out the regular Port-A-Potty, reducing our expenses by about $400.  Wendy will also look into reducing the beach attendant coverage after the middle of August so that we can reduce this expense as well.
Recreation: Wendy did a fine job of presenting the budget backed up with solid rationales and reasoning.  No suggestion or improvements were made.

3) Town Beach Issues - The fall clean-up and putting away of swim area was done by Peter Durnan and a group from Holderness School.  The area was mowed and raked as well as pulling in the swim lines, buoys, and swim raft.
Wendy reported that she had recently received notice of some "problems" regarding the beach:  1) the raft had some decking that was a bit splintery.  Biff said that he would investigate and present a solution,  2) parking was too limited especially when swim lessons were being held. 3) Out of town folks whose children were in swim lessons were using the beach during and probably after the swim lessons.  4) The number of kids in the lessons seemed too large and it was crowding the beach and raft at times.  5) The port-a-potties were dirty at times.
We will discuss these issues in January.

4) Current Programs
Yeah! Archery has 13 participants and it is a go!!
Wendy reported that the 1st annual Harvest Festival was a success with about 40 kid participants.  She had good volunteer support from friends.
Play Group - the play group is running with 3 moms and 3 kids.
Day Hikes - Wendy led two day hikes with one volunteer helping out with one hike.

5) Correspondence -  Wendy reported that Peter Durnan had emailed her to let her know that his professional responsibilities at School are just too much for him to continue giving up time to remain on the Recreation Board.

NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, December 13th  at 7:00 PM

Respectfully submitted,

George D. Sutcliffe, Jr. (secretary)
