Holderness Recreation Board Meeting
December 13, 2005
Board Members Present: Wendy Werner, Director, Tom Stepp (chair), Sam Laverack (Selectman ) Biff Sutcliffe (secretary), Jay Fogarty, Janis Messier Wendy Mersch,
1) Minutes of 9 November were reviewed and accepted.
2) Budget Report - (as of 10/31)
Town Beach - Income: $2,470 Expenses: $6,973 Net: ($4,503)
Recreation - Income: $9,932 Expenses: $24,416 Net: ($14,484)
3) Beach - Biff reported that he felt that the deck of the raft can easily be "refinished" in the spring so that it will be a safe surface. To fully re-plank the deck would be labor intensive and the materials would cost several hundreds of dollars. In the future we should consider replacing the entire raft with perhaps two smaller ones and look into using the new polyethylene types.
4) Current Programs - (refer to current flyer for listing)
Hockey has started off with 10 participants and the Sunday Family Skate with 14. This is our strongest start ever
Play Group continues with a few participants and we hope that this will grow.
Archery finished with a successful session.
5) Correspondence - Tom read a letter of resignation from Marty Riehs. Citing family responsibilities and not being able to give the time necessary to the Recreation Board, Marty offered his resignation with the caveat that he would like to continue to help with the skating program.
Wendy reported that she had been in touch with Joyce Warburton and that Joyce would be willing to meet with the Board in January to discuss the use of the Town Beach for swimming lessons, etc. Wendy will follow-up with the final arrangements.
Earnest Browne contacted Wendy asking if we would be interested in joining forces with the Masons and others in establishing a Christmas party for the Town - similar to what the Recreation Department used to do - in 2006. The Board gave Wendy permission to continue this discussion and involve the Recreation Department in the planning.
6) Other -
a) Wendy reported on the status of her pursuit of getting hats made for the Day Camp. Meredith Village Savings Bank is covering the cost and it is Wendy's goal to have the hats in hand by the end of the year.
b) On January 10 -12 Wendy will be attending the New Hampshire meeting of the Parks and Recreation Directors Association.
c) Wendy offered a draft of the 2005 Recreation Report for the Town's Annual Report. A few refinements were offered.
d) Wendy mentioned that she has been told that the Town has 1603 acres of land that have been classified as Current Use - Recreational Land. According to State Law, land that is thusly classified must be accessible to the public for a variety of recreational purposes. As a future project we will look into how we might be able to take advantage of this resource.
e) The Board is in need of new members. Tom asked the attending members to try to develop a list of candidates for consideration.
NEXT MEETING: Monday, January 23rd at 7:00 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
George D. Sutcliffe, Jr. (secretary)
