Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes 11/19/07
The Town of Holderness, New Hampshire
Holderness Recreation Board Meeting
        19 November 2007

Board Members Present:      Wendy Werner, Director,     Tom Stepp (chair),   Biff Sutcliffe (secretary),      Jay Fogarty,          Janis Messier     Bob Stark,

1)  Minutes of 29 October, 2007 could not be approved because they were not available for review.

2) Programs Review:
        Volleyball is going well
Scrap Booking is running with marginal attendance, but it is a good program and Wendy thinks it will catch on.
Mixed Media - same report as Scrap Booking
Dodgeball will be starting on Nov. 28th.
Walk to NY - one person interested, Wendy is having trouble with the local paper, the Record Enterprise.  Both Walk to NY and Dodgeball were supposed to be in on 11/15 per a conversation with Marcia Morris the Editor and neither programs were in there.

3) Beach:
o The sign posts have been placed for the "No Vehicles" signs which will be installed soon.
o Wendy and Biff reported that they met with John Murphy of Squam Docks at the Town Beach  regarding ideas for maintaining/replacing the swim raft.  As a result of our discussion John has submitted a proposal for us to include in our 2008 budget request.  The Board accepted the proposal and hopes to act on in it in the spring.
o Wendy reported that Eleanor Mardin has said that we can used an extra Back Board (Spine Board) for use at the Town Beach during our swimming instruction program.  This means that can remove this item from our proposed purchase list on the 2008 budget.

3) Budget Proposal Review:
o Wendy added significantly more detail to our rationale for raising our Day Camp Staff salaries.
o Walter Johnson requested that we reconsider the revenues gained from Day Camp tuition.  Although we expect to see Day Camp participation to continue to slowly grow we agreed that scaling our estimated participation back to where it was in 2007 could be done.  Wendy will make this adjustment and re-submit the budget before our meeting with the Selectmen on Monday, November 26th.

4) NEXT MEETING: Monday, November 26th at 7:00 PM and if necessary, Monday, December 10th  as well to make any requested changes to the budgets after our review of the budget with the Selectmen on November 26th.

5) Following Meeting:  Our first meeting of the 2008 year will be on Tuesday, January 15th.

Respectfully submitted,

George D. Sutcliffe, Jr. (secretary)
