Holderness Recreation Board Meeting
March 16, 2009
Board Members Present: Wendy Werner, Director, Tom Stepp (chair), Sid Lovett (Selectman )
Biff Sutcliffe (secretary), Jay Fogarty, Janis Messier Bob Stark, Fawn Ouellette
1) Minutes of 16 February 2009 were approved.
2) Budget Update – no official accounting to report.
3) Programs-
• Tennis Program started with 7 attendees.
• Archery – a last minute surge of applicants brought the numbers up to 10 -12.
• Volleyball – solid attendance all winter.
• Floor Hockey – cancelled – not enough interest
• Early Bird – continues
• Hockey – had a wonderful season, good attendance and enthusiasm.
• Rec. Skating – poor attendance – not enough interest.
• Wildlife Encounters – great showing of about 80 people!
Day Camp –
• Staffing is complete
• Field Trips are all set and planned with Ashland Recreation. Some communication
problems will need to be worked out.
• Tennis Grant has been submitted.
• Summer Program Brochure has been sent out. The new color, style and content are
stunning. Many compliments have been shared with Wendy for a great job.
4) Holderness 250th – Wendy will attend the organizational meeting of the committee that will be
planning the 250th Celebration in August of 2011. The first meeting will be April
6th. Wendy will report back to the Board. Biff has volunteered to be a representative
on the Committee if needed.
5) Beach Update –
• We are looking for a swimming instructor to take over the swimming lesson program.
• It appears that we are all set for staffing of the Beach Attendants.
6) Correspondence- None to report.
6) Other –
• All Board members, except Janis and Biff, have terms that expired in March of 2009. Jay Fogarty regretfully declined to have his name submitted to the Selectmen for an additional term. Bob Stark, Fawn Ouellette, and Tom Stepp agreed to server another term. Tom will pass this information on to the Selectmen. Due to Jay’s leaving the Board we will actively pursue looking for a replacement.
• Summer Concert Series – Wendy reported that a committee has been formed to organize a summer concert series. The committee members are: Larry Mowbray, Kia Hellman, Walter Johnson, and Wendy. Their first meeting will be in April.
