Beach: ($5,304) Recreation: ($31,728)
$1,395 $14,886
($3,909) ($16,842)
3) Welcome Center :
Woody presented an update of the new Welcome Center at the PSU hockey facility. He gave us an overview of the perceived functions and a basic time-line of completion.
Wendy mentioned that she met with Ken Knight – facilities manager at the new PSU facility. She had a quick tour of the building and had a chance to introduce Ken to the type of summer program we run. She will continue the conversation.
3) Program Updates:
a) Wendy will be offering an American Red Cross Babysitting Training Course on the 24th of February. This is for 11 – 15 year olds. Enrollment is good.
b) Dodgeball – going well but the numbers vary.
c) Volleyball – going well
d) Early Bird Aerobics – going well
e) Wendy is looking into starting Junior Team Tennis – a “play to learn” approach to tennis that is an off-shoot of the Quick Start Tennis she participated in last year. This is for children 12 years and younger and would be offered simultaneously with many local towns’ recreation departments.
f) Hockey – going well
g) Rec. Skating – averaging between 7 – 10 skaters.
4) Newsletter – Wendy is looking into changing the format of the Recreation Newsletter. She showed us a small newsprint paper as a sample of what she has in mind. She is presently looking for a printing firm that can handle this type of paper and format.
5) Summer Escape Program-
We still have $375 in outstanding payments due. This is reduced by about $1000 from the end of last year. Wendy has written the families and let them know that they will not be allowed to participate in any of our up-coming activities until the past-due bills are paid in full.
Wendy is working on staffing for the summer.
6) Beach Update:
Wendy learned of some activity at the Beach in which it looks as if someone has been gaining access to the Lake using the road and the beach. She has talked with the Police Chief about this.
It appears that the shop program at the HCS will adopt the project of building a sign station for the Town Beach. This will be a covered sign board attached to wood posts that will be set in the ground near the path to the beach from the parking area. Wendy shared a sketch of the proposed sign station and it was agreed that this would be a very nice addition to the beach.
7) Other –
Wendy reported that she recently chaired the regional meeting of the NH Parks and Recreation Directors. She presented us with the review notes of the meeting – in particular she referred to the section in which the directors reviewed their summer programs.
Fawn requested that we consider offering a one week camper scholarship to the PSU Operating Staff silent auction in April. The PSU Operating Staff raise money to offer academic scholarships to up to two returning PSU students. The Board agreed to honor the request.
NEXT MEETING: Monday, March 15th at 5:30 PM
Respectfully submitted,
George D. Sutcliffe, Jr. (secretary)
