Discussion Items
- Budget Update: Mr. Van Bennekum reviewed the cuts necessary to have a level funded budget and stated that he does not support the proposals to cut personnel. To create a level funded budget including the revenues we would need to cut $197,000. We would need to cut the positions of .5 Reading, .4 Industrial Arts .3 Reading/Support .5 Reading, 1 Paraprofessional, .5 Middle School Teacher. Mr. Van Bennekum spoke about other cuts that could be made would be the funding for ACE, Industrial Arts Supplies, Curriculum Development, Gifted & Talented, Floor Scrubber, Athletic Supplies, Library Books. Cutting supplies would not be a significant amount of money. Mr. Van Bennekum indicated that he tried to stay away from teachers, most cuts are in auxiliary positions. There was discussion about the
budget being up 2.5% at the beginning of this process without adding any programs. There was discussion about what would need to be done to cut the budget 3%. Cutting the budget 3% would mean cutting 4 teaching positions. There was discussion about if a Board needed to be paid. Ms. Boyle will find out. There was discussion about whether the Board should take the Boards salary out of the budget or pay it back to the District.
On a motion by Ms. Mersch and seconded by Dr. Casey, the Board unanimously voted to enter into non-public session at 7:25PM.
