 2005 Tax Rate $13.44

Twice each year the Board of Selectmen, acting in their capacity as Assessors of the Town, sign a Commitment of Property Taxes which the Tax Collector is legally responsible to collect.  Property taxes are generally due the 1st week in July (the “Spring bill”) and the 1st week in December (the “Fall bill”) each year. The amount of the Spring bill is one-half of the previous Fall bill.  Each October the Board of Selectmen set a new property tax rate used to determine the amount due for the Fall billing. Delinquent property taxes are charged 12% interest per year after the due date.

Per State Law, a taxpayer may qualify for certain property tax exemption and credits, including Veterans, Blind, Solar, and Elderly.  Please contact the Town Office for further information if you believe you may qualify for an exemption or credit.

In addition to property taxes, the Tax Collector is also responsible for collection of the Land Use Change Tax (when land is removed from current use classification), Timber Harvesting Tax, Sewer Fees, and a Road Improvement Betterment Assessment.
